Civic Education Program

Civic Education Program is one of the four main programs of Scholar Institute. This program is designed to promote the civic competency and responsibilities among young people. Civic Education Program has been intensively training the youths to become active and, engaged citizens for many years. It provides the space for youths to develop their skills and capacities step by step through conversation clubs and other relevant activities. The program also provides the capacity building trainings such as youth empowerment training, training of trainers, other necessary trainings for club organizers and responsible persons of the activities.

CEP is composed of two main components- Youth Empowerment Projects and Civic Education Projects. Youth Empowerment Projects is comprised of different clubs: Youth Dialogue, Let’s Speak English conversation club, Capacity Upgrading Club, and Debate Club.

Youth Empowerment Projects

Youth Empowerment Project is designed to empower the capability skills and to motivate individual talents in the vision of getting strong academic background towards sustainable career paths by creating youth engagement activities among all different youths around Myanmar. Youth Empowerment Projects is comprised of different clubs: Youth Dialogue, Let’s Speak English conversation club, Capacity Upgrading Club, and Debate Club.
Youth Dialogue (YD)
The best space to practice English language in terms of four skills is Youth Dialogue Conversation Club. The starter and elementary levels of English Learning students are encouraged to join the club. The club organizers are ready to have healthy and happy environment for the club participants by supporting and empowering the critical thinking and English skills of them.
Let’s Speak English (LSE)
This club can be best expressed as the channel to exchange the ideas and to discuss the current issues in English Language by exploring the presentation skill and practicing public speaking skill. The Pre-Intermediate English level students are encouraged to join the club; however, any active and enthusiastic young people are welcome to participate.
Capacity Upgrading Club (CUC)
The Intermediate and above students are highly encouraged to be core members for this club. The Club is technically designed to have young people engaged in the discussions of global economics, political landscapes and social problems. Experienced organizers are facilitating the club in their best capacity.
Debate Club (DC)
Debate Club welcomes all kinds of youths. This is the place where they can explore their innovative and creative ideologies. The club organizers are happy to share their debate knowledge and practice the debating skills.

 

Civic Education Projects

Under the Civic Education Projects, the project focuses on providing awareness trainings on voter education, active citizenship, human rights and those civic education related fields.

STEP to Democracy-Support to Electoral Processes and Democracy

Scholar Institute (as a co-implementer agency) along with other three  local organizations and four international organizations  is fulfilling the project overrall objective: to support  inclusive and peaceful electoral processes,empower electoral stakeholders and strengtnen the democratic transition.

Deepening Social Accountability in Myanmar

Scholar Institute in partnership with Oxfam and Spectrum is the project objects 1) to contribute to improve transparency, accountability, and people’s participation in Public Financial Management(PFM) in Myanmar and 2) to contribute to better development outcomes for vulnerable women and men in Myanmar through improved government development programming. The specific object of the project is to improve social accountability (SA) in Myanmar through constructive engagement between COCs and government for transparent and people entered policies, programs and budgets,primarily in natural resource management (NRM) sector.

The Project focuses on four geographical regions: Irrawaddy Division, Rakhine State, Kayin State, Kachin State.
